Sheriff Coroner Eddie Engram
Sheriff Eddie Engram grew up in Union City, California, graduating from James Logan High School. After graduating, he attended Eastern Michigan University and Cal State Hayward. Eddie began his law enforcement career as a correctional officer with the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office and promoted to Deputy Sheriff in 2001.
Eddie joined the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office in 2002. As a Deputy Sheriff II, he was assigned to the Main Office, the Valley Substation, and the Sonoma Police Department. Eddie served as a Domestic Violence Sexual Assault Detective, from 2006-2009 and again in 2014, before he promoted to Sergeant.
In 2014, Eddie was promoted to the rank of Sergeant as a Main office patrol supervisor and Internal Affairs. He also held collateral assignments as a supervisor with the Hostage Negotiations Team, Crisis Intervention Training program, the Explorer Program, Defensive Tactics, and the Body Worn Camera program.
In 2017, Eddie promoted to the rank of Lieutenant. As a Lieutenant, Eddie worked as a Watch Commander overseeing patrol operations. In 2018, Eddie moved to the Professional Standards Bureau, which included Internal Affairs, use of force training and review, and liaison to the county’s law enforcement auditor.
Eddie was promoted to Captain in April 2019 and oversaw the Field Services Division, responsible for Patrol Bureau, Dispatch Bureau, Court Security/Transportation, and the contract cities of Windsor and Sonoma.
In 2020, Eddie promoted to the rank of Assistant Sheriff, overseeing the Detention Division and all Detention related services for both facilities. The Detention Division of the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office is comprised of over 300 employees as well as numerous community volunteers.
Eddie was elected June of 2022 as the Sonoma County’s 35th elected Sheriff and took office January 2, 2023. Eddie is a member of the California State Sheriff’s Association and board member of the local non-profit Verity.
Eddie is a recipient of the Sheriff’s Office Distinguished Service Award and a Gold Medal of Valor. He also holds a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice Management.
Eddie was appointed as a member of Congressman Thompson’s Latino Advisory Council in 2023.
